4 Ways To Prepare Your Body For Laser Hair Removal

If you have scheduled a laser hair removal session, there are a few things you need to do on your end to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible:

#1 Keep Out of the Sun

You cannot get laser treatment if you have a sunburn, so stay out of the sun up to a month before your first treatment to ensure that you don't damage your skin. If your skin is sunburned, the laser treatment will not work correctly. If or when you have to go outside, be sure to put on sunscreen, no matter the time of year. The sun can just as easily burn your skin in the winter as it can in the summer.

#2 Avoid Getting a Tan

The sun is not the only way that you can damage your skin. You should also stay away from tanning beds and even spray tanning both before and during your laser hair removal treatments. Spray tanning formula, and even spray tanning lotion will get into the pigment of your skin and will make it more difficult for the laser to go through your skin and target the particular hair follicles that you are working on having removed.

#3 Shave the Area

You should shave the area that you are going to have treated. You do not want to come in with long hair for your treatment. Shaving your hair will make it easier for the technician to target your hair follicles. Laser hair removal works by treating the pigment in your hair follicles, and shaving makes your hair shorter and it easier for the technician to work with your skin without removing the hair follicles.

#4 Don't Wax the Area

Although shaving is okay before you go through a laser hair removal treatment, you don't want to wax the area. Waxing the area results in the removal of your hair follicles. Your hair follicles need to be present to laser hair treatment removal to work. Laser light has to be absorbed by your hair's dark pigment and into the follicle of your hair. This results in the heat damaging the hair follicle, which is how laser hair removal actually works. It damages the hair follicle so that growth is inhibited in the future.

Before getting laser hair treatment, make sure that you stay out of the sun, avoid using any sunless training products, shave the area that will be treated but stay away from waxing. Taking these precautions will help prepare your skin for effective laser hair removal treatment.

About Me

I'm Emily, Queen of Hair

When I was little, it didn't take long for me to learn how to do my own hair. I was doing my own pigtails by the time I was 3. I spent a lot of time in front of the mirror every day, and it was all just for my hair! I had the largest collection of hair bows, clips, and flowers. If YouTube existed back then, I would have spent my teenage years watching--and making!--hair tutorials. It was always my dream to go to hair school, but I ended up getting married and having a baby instead. Luckily, I have now found a way to share my love of the world of hair! Keep coming back for posts on all things hair, as well as some other beauty topics too.
